Day-by-day
itinerary
Day 1:-Your Bhutan travel experience
will start much before your arrival at the beautiful
Paro airport. The flight and descend into Paro airport
is breath-taking. After clearing the airport formalities
you will be greeted by Bhutan Travel Packages guide
and a driver who will directly take you to the capital
city of Bhutan, Thimpu, here you will be taken to
your hotel to have lunch and rest after the long
travel to this magnificent Kingdom of Bhutan. Late
afternoon your guide will take you to explore the
local market. Day
2:-Your Bhutan trip will commence by
first visiting the Tashischo Dzong; a beautiful
medieval fortress/monastery housing most of the
government offices and the King’s throne
room. This is also the summer residence of Je
Khenpo, the chief Abbot of the Buddhist Kingdom
of Bhutan. You will continue Bhutan tour by then
visiting Zorig Chusum the the school of 13 traditional
arts and crafts. Here you will also be able to
see pupil at work, immersed in traditional intricate
weaving. Institute of Tibetology. The National
Memorial Chorten, the handicraft emporium. National
Library: this facility holds an extensive collection
of Buddhist text and manuscripts dating back many
a centuries as well as some modern literature.
Day
3:-Your Bhutan tour will now take you
Phobjika, will pass Dochula Pass (3150) about
30 km from Thimpu, from here you can have a beautiful
view of the Himalayan mountain range. Phobjikha
valley is one of the widest valleys in Bhutan,
this is a glacial valley and is winter home to
the Black Necked Crane which migrate here to escape
the bitter cold of Tibet. We will have some time
to explore the valley. If black necked cranes
are still here or if you are here in the winter
season, you can watch them foraging in the valley.
Day
4:-Gangtey. Today on fourth day of your
Bhutan Travel Package you will be exploring, to
start with the Gangtey Gonpa, this is an important
monastery Nyingmapa school of Buddhism. Gangtey
Gonpa was established in 1613 by the first Peling
Gyalse’ Rinpoche or Gangteng Tulku . Gantey
is also from where the descendant of the first
king of Bhutan Ugyen Wangchuk of the Wangchuk
Dynasty of Bhutan, which also the present ruling
dynasty, who took up throne in 1907 A.D can be
traced to the clan of the Dunghar Chole, a subsidiary
clan of Khouchung Choje, the founder of this was
this clan was Kunga Wangpo, the fourth son of
Pema lingpa.
Day 5:- Today your Bhutan travel
package will take you to Chumkhar or Choekor Valley.
This is considered to be the most beautiful part
in Bhutan and is fondly referred to as the ‘Switzerland
of Bhutan’. We will first visit the Jakar
Dzong (fortress), which is located on a ridge
above the Jakar village of a population of around
5,000. It was originally constructed in 1667 and
was later rebuilt after it was immensely damaged
in an earthquake in 1897. Jakar is known as the
stronghold of Vajrayan Buddhism Jakar Dzong. Then
you will be visiting Wangdiecholing Palace built
in 1857. It served as the principal summer residence
for the first and the second king, although it’s
not a very impressive structure as it lacks major
salient features, but it is definitely worth a
visit. We will stay at a hotel in Gangtey for
the night. We will also be visiting a few other
monasteries like Khurje Lhakhang and Jambey Lhakhang
before calling it a day.
Day 6:- Bumthang, Ura Valley.
At a distance of about 1.5 hour from Jakar lays
the Ura Valley and is the highest of the four
valleys known collectively as Bumthang. Ura village
is a traditional village and is beautiful to be
covered on foot, and the guide can arrange for
you to visit one of the local families, for you
to have a first-hand experience of true Bhutanese
life style which has remain unchanged for a millennia,
if you so desire. In late afternoon you will head
back to Jakar and on the way take rest at the
Flaming Lake, which comes after you cross a wooden
bridge over Tang Chhu (river), where in 16th century
Pema lingpa a religious leader is said to have
discovered hidden artefacts by Guru Rinpoche.
It is possible to walk back to Jakar from the
Flaming Lake, if you so desire.
Day 7:-Today’s your travel
in Bhutan will take you to Trongsa.Dzong a three
hour journey to this largest Dzong of Bhutan.
This Dzong is located aginst the imposing backdrop
of Black Mountains to the southwest and overlooking
Mangde Chhu (river) valley. This is a powerfully
built fortress and has exemplary traditional architecture.
It has over 25 temples and is constructed on different
levels.
Day 8:- Punakha a four hour drive
will bring you to the Punakha valley, a scenic
valley with long stretches of terraced rice fields
on the beautiful mountain slopes. Post lunch you
will be visiting Chimi Lhakhang, the temple of
divine mad monk. One of the Bhutan’s most
treasured figures, the temple is in a picturesque
location across paddy fields. Punakha Dzong (fortress)
or Pungtang Dechen Photrang Dzong (the place of
great happiness or bliss), built in early 17th
century, this is second oldest and the second
largest Dzong in Bhutan. This is located in a
beautiful setting of the confluence of two rivers
Pho Chhu (Father River) and Mo Chhu (Mother River).
You will stay the night at Punakha.
Day 9:- Khamsum Yul-le Namgyel
Chorten. Today you will start your Bhutan trip
to some of the traditional villages of Punakha
and observe how different the life here is to
our own. Post lunch you can take a 45 minute walk
to scenic Khamsum Yul-le Namgyel Chorten. The
construction of this Chorten took over 9 years
to complete and as in Bhutanese architecture no
engineering drawings were made only Buddhist scriptures
were consulted.
Day 10:- Paro. After breakfast
you will begin your journey back to Paro. We recommend
that after reaching there and having had your
lunch at the designated hotel you take a look
around Paro’s local market where various
Bhutanese traditional handicraft, jewellery and
textile are sold.
Day
11:- Your penultimate day of your Bhutan
travel package Paro Tiger's Nest Monastery the
Tiger’s Liar. It’s a moderate hike
to the monastery which takes about two hour to
reach the top. The monastery is open to visitors.
One can go inside the many temples here and pray,
or ask for their wishes to be granted. It’s
customary for Bhutanese to offer currency as part
of the prayer, but not crucial for a visitor to
do the same. In one or the other temple one can
see a number of monks chanting Buddhist chants
with hundreds of butter lamps lit, the whole experience
is surreal. From the grounds of the monastery
the view of the valley below and the Himalayan
peaks around, is breath-taking. On the way back
you will have lunch in the cafeteria located slightly
off the hike path. In afternoon you will visit
Ringpung Dzong or the Paro Fortress. You can take
rest of the day for yourself, maybe to do last
minute shopping, whatever your plan our guide
would be happy to assist.
Day 12:-Departure. Your fairy-tale
like Bhutan travel package has come to an end,

back home. You will be seen off to the Paro International
Airport.

itinerary
Day 1 :- After the early morning
flight in which you will be treated to the panoramic
view of the Himalayan highest peaks, on arrival
at Paro Airport a Bhutan Travel Packages representative
will receive you in the beautiful travel destination
Bhutan the Land of Thunder Dragon and we hope
that you have the most memorable Bhutan holiday.
You will be directly taken to Thimpu an hour’s
drive, the capital city of Bhutan. In late afternoon
you can opt to go for a stroll in the local market.
An overnight stay in a hotel in Thimpu.
Day 2 :- Your Bhutan tour will
commence by visiting first of the many landmarks
you will visit on this Bhutan trip. We will be

Day 3 :- Your next Bhutan travel
destination is Punakha, post breakfast we leave
for Punakha a two hour drive from Thimpu. En route
we will have a short coffee break at Dochula Pass
(3150m). Punakha Dzong (fortress) this beautiful
fortress was completed in the 17th century, we
will also visit the local market. Then visit Khamsum
Yulley Namgyel Chorten, these stupas were constructed
recently. After that we will drive to Wandue Phodrang
Dzong and the local market. The district of Wandue
Phodrang is also known for its bamboo products,
stone and slate carvings, which can be purchased
in the local market. Overnight stay in Punakha.
Day
4 :-
The Bhutan travel experience continues south of
Punakha to Gangtey, we first visit the Gangtey
Gompa Monastery, this Monastery was established
in 1631. The monastery is one of the main seats
of the religious tradition based on Pema Lingpa’s
revelations and also one of the main of two main
centres of Nyingmapa school of Buddhism in Bhutan.
Today we will go on a small trail termed as Gangtey
Natural Trail, this is the most beautiful and
a short trail requiring no more than 2 hours to
complete the trail starts from monastery itself
and ends to the south at the Chhu Nap (Black River)
near Khewang village. If one feel like the trail
can be extended for another hour or two beyond
the village and on the trail one can see black
necked crane, skylarks, temples and will have
a bird eye view of the village below. We will
stay the night at Gangtey.
Day
5 :- This morning your Bhutan tour will
take you from Gangtey to Paro, on the way we will
be visiting Simtokha Dzong one of the oldest fortress
in the Kingdom of Bhutan completed in 1627. It
is now converted into a school for religious studies.
Later in the day post lunch we will be visiting
Ta Dzong in Paro, this was originally built as
a watchtower to guard against the invading Tibetan
intruders, since 1967 it has served as the National
Museum, it holds a fascinating collection of various
traditional artifacts, thankgkha paintings, postage
stamps, etc. we will also walk down the trail
and visit Rinpung Dzong which means ‘the
fortress of the heap of jewels’. Overnight
stay at a hotel in Paro.
Day 6 :-
Last scheduled stop on your Bhutan travel adventure.
Paro Taktshang Monastery ‘the tigers nest’.
It has been listed amongst the top 10 temples,
shrines and places of worship in Asia, in the
‘divine list’. Built 900 meters above
the valley floor on a flat rock face, this is
the most famous and revered monastery in the Kingdom
of Bhutan, every Bhutanese is required to visit
this monastery at least once in their lifetime.
Kyichu Lhakhang: one of the oldest temple in Bhutan
and is believed to have been visited by Guru Rinpoche,
who was later instrumental in establishing the
Taktsang Monastery. Evening you can visit the
local Paro market for some memorabilia shopping
or just to feel the place for one last time. Overnight
stay in Paro.
Day 7 :- Your Bhutan travel package
has come to an end. We at will see you off to
the Paro Airport for your flight out of Bhutan.

Day 1 :- Paro: At Paro you will

Your Bhutan tour will begin from capital city
of Bhutan. Once it was a rustic village of a few
thousand inhabitants, in a vast fertile river
valley. Thimpu today is bustling capital city.
Check-in at your overnight hotel in Thimpu and
where a lunch of traditional Bhutanese cuisine
as well as continental dishes will be served to
you. Late afternoon you can visit the local market
and feel the city first hand. Dinner and overnight
stay at hotel in Thimpu.
Day 2 :- Thimpu sightseeing.
After breakfast we will take you Bhutan National
Library, the 13 art painting school, Bhutan institute
for traditional medicine and the Thimpu Dzong.
Post lunch you will proceed to Punakha through
Dochula pass (3150m), at Dochula you can enjoy
a cup of coffee/tea gazing at beautiful Himalayan
mountain peaks and valleys laid across the horizon.
Thereafter you will straight away proceed to Punakha
Dzong (fortress) at 17th century structure, stunningly
perched on the confluence of two rivers, built
in typical Bhutanese architecture. Later take
a stroll through the Punakha’s local market.
Overnight stay at hotel in Punakha.
Day 3 :- Gangtey (Phobjikha): the drive
from Punakha to Gangtey is through a dense forest
lined by Oak and Rhododendron trees. We would
recommend you walk around the Gangtey village
if time permits, if not you will be visiting Gangtey
Gompa, it is the only monastery in the royal kingdom
of Nyingmapa sect of Buddhism. Overnight stay
in a guesthouse.
Day
4 :- Phobjikha . Post breakfast, explore
Phobjikha valley, famous for its rare Black Necked
Cranes, which migrate here from Tibet in winters
to escape bitter cold. Next stop on your Bhutan
travel to Trongsa, after lunch you will be starting
for Trongsa, enroute you will you will be passing
Pele La Pass (3300m), in Trongsa visit the local
market. Dinner and overnight stay in Trongsa.
Day
5 :- Trongsa. After breakfast you will
proceed to Trongsa the capital of Trongsa district.
You will visit Bhutan’s largest Dzong (fortress),
the Trongsa Dzong or the Taa Dzong. Post lunch,
you will proceed east, to Bhumtang, a visit to
local market in evening and overnight stay at
a hotel in Bhumtang.
Day 6 :- Bhumtang. After breakfast
you will go and visit the Jakar Dzong, the ‘Castle
of White Bird”, legend has it when Lama
were deciding a site to build the Dzong (fortress),
a big white bird rose suddenly in the sky and
settled on the site, where the Jakar Dzong stands
today. Post lunch we will start for Wangdue a
little over 2 hour drive, evening exploring the
local market, night stay at a guesthouse in Wangdue.
Day 7 :- Wangdue Phodrang or
the Wangdi Palace. Morning post breakfast you
will visit the Wangdue Dzong, built in 1638. Legend
has it that Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal encountered
a boy by the name Wangdi playing at the spot besides
the river and hence named the palace after the
boy’s name. After visiting the palace you
will start for paro via Dochula pass. Dinner and
overnight at a hotel.
Day 8 :- Taktsang Monastery.
Any Bhutan trip is incomplete, without paying
a visit here. In the morning you will head for
the Taktsang Monastery hike, you will have breakfast
at the Taktsang Cafeteria. It is believed that
Guru Rinpoche came riding on back of a flaming
tigress, and meditated at this place. This is
the most important religious place for Bhutanese.
Next stop ruins Drukgyal Dzong built in 1649,
it served both as a fortress and a monastery,
it was completely destroyed in a fire in early
1950’s. Evening at the local market. Dinner
and overnight at hotel in Paro.
Day 9 :- Paro. Your last day
of Bhutan travel and sightseeing. We will begin
the day by paying a visit to the Ta Dzong which
has stood as a watchtower over Rinpung Dzong for
centuries, has been converted into a museum in
1967. The museum in its archives contains 2000
years of history of Bhutan in over 3000 works
of Bhutanese art. Rinpung Dzong founded in 17th
century, now houses the district monastic body
and government administrative offices. Some parts
of the movie ‘Little Buddha’ by Bernardo
Bertolucci was filmed here.
Day 10 :- Your Bhutan travel
package has come to an end. You have just completed

Travel
Bhutan with Bhutan Travel Packages and embark
on journey of a lifetime. Your Bhutan travel experience
starts mid-air at least 30 min prior to your landing
at the stunning Paro Airport. Through your aircraft
window and absorb the breathtakingly beautiful
view of the highest Himalayan snow covered peaks
showing their defiance of gravity, in all likelihood
this is your first experience of directly staring
at the majestic mount Everest, Kanchenjunga and
other star grazing peaks in real time.
As the aircraft twist and turns between mountains
on its final approach you see down below, on your
sides and also sometimes above your eye level
the beautiful Bhutan countryside, with its sparsely
populated villages picturesque terrace farms,
virgin forest, serpentine rivers and roads.
After you land and clear immigration formalities

Day
1 Arrival at Paro Airport, Bhutan – Elevation
2280m
Bhutan Travel Packages welcome you to Druk Yul-the
Land of the Thunder Dragon. You will be courteously
escorted to your assigned vehicle and directly
will be taken to Thimpu the national capital and
the seat of His Majesty Jigme Signey Namgayal
Wangchuk the fifth dragon king of Bhutan.
Today we will take it slow as you are now exposed
to higher altitude and your body needs to acclimatise
to the altitude. We suggest after your long journey
you take rest. For your lunch you will be treated
to the choicest of Bhutanese and continental cuisine,
in evening your assigned guide will take you around
town: the local market, Buddha point here sits
one of the largest golden statues of Buddha in
Bhutan. The east facing figure seems to be showering
its blessing on the Thimpu valley below. In the
evening you will be treated to a sumptuous dinner.
Day 2 Thimpu Bhutan Elevation 2200 meters
Bhutan travel sightseeing begins: After a lavish
breakfast of continental and choicest of Bhutanese
local dishes you would be taken to the Kings Memorial
built in the memory of the third Dragon King Jigme
Dorji Wangchuk the third king of Bhutan who ruled
the country for three decades from 1952-1972 and
was grandfather to the present King of Bhutan.
Thimpu Dzong: Thimpu Dzong is the largest fortress
in Bhutan. It is not the original fortress because
it was rebuilt many times. It is also known as
Traschicho or Trasi Chhoe Dzong, ‘fortress
of glorious religion’. It is north of the
city on the west bank of Wangchu(Thimpu) river.
Traditional handmade paper making factory: here
one can see the delicate art of paper making by
hand, which has been passed from one generation
to other over centuries. National institute for
Traditional Medicine: Here a variety of medicine
of tradition secret formula origin are available
for public and tourist alike and one can procure
traditional medicine for ailments or beauty treatments
here.
Day 3 Thimpu Bhutan
Semtokha Dzong: This is the oldest fortress in
Bhutan. It is about five miles from Thimpu. Heritage
Museum: this is where exhibition of artefacts
used in rural household are on display. Every
Saturday and Sunday market is held on the banks
of the river at the popular site centenary farmers
market. Villagers and people of nearby places
come to sell their products.
Day
4 Thimpu to Punakha- Elevation 1200 meters
After an early breakfast you would be taken to
Punakha via Dochu-La pass (3,150m)
Dochu-La pass: This is the first mountain pass
in western region of Bhutan, and see the 108 Druk
Wangyal Chorten situated on the top of the pass,
built by the present Queen Mother Ashi Dorji Wangmo
Wangchuk in celebration of victory of Bhutanese
forces against militant group in recent past and
to liberate the souls lost. The design is inspired
from Buddhist scriptures. On a clear day one can
enjoy a panorama of the Himalayan mountain range.
We will also have lunch en route to Punakha. Punakha
Dzong: the second oldest fortress of Bhutan. It
was built in 1637 and remains the winter home
of the clergy, headed by the chief Abbott, the
Je Khenpo. It is bewildering example of Bhutanese
architecture. It looks like sitting in fork of
two rivers. The fortress was destroyed by fire
and glacial floods but has been carefully restored
to its medieval glory. It is a commendable example
of Bhutanese craftsmanship. Khamsum Yulley Namgyal
Chorten(Stupa): We take a short drive up the valley
and reach these splendid Stupas. It is one of
three such Stupas in the world, were constructed
under the guidance of the third Queen Ashi Dorji
Wangmo Wangchuk. It was constructed in 1992.
Day
5 Punakha - Wangduephodrang Valley – Gangtey
As one further drives to south of Punakha, one
reaches to the valley of Wangduephodrang at the
elevation of 1,350m. It is an old town of a narrow
street with single storied shops. There is plan
to replace it by a brand new town. Gangtey Nature
Trail. It starts from the mani stone wall to the
north of the Gangtey Gonpa and ends in Khewa Lhakhang.
[ Wangduephodrang Dzong(Fortress). It is on a
steep ridge overlooking the highway fork to the
east and south of the country. Gangtery Gompu
Monastery: This Monastery was established in 1631.
The monastery is one of the main seats of the
religious tradition based on Pema Lingpa’s
revelations and also one of the two main centers
of Nyingmapa school of Buddhism in Bhutan. Gangtey
nature trail: Gangte Nature Trail will start from
the mani stone wall to the north of the Gangtey
Gonpa and ends in Khewa Lhakhang.
Day 6 Gangtey – Paro
Post breakfast we will leave for Paro a 5 to 6
hour drive from Gangtey. We will have a light
traditional lunch at a restaurant at Wangduephodrang
and start for Paro our point of origin into Bhutan.
On arrival into Paro you will be taken to the
local market to do if any last day memorabilia
shopping. A good night’s sleep after a sumptuous
dinner at the luxury hotel in Paro
Day 7 Paro
After an early light breakfast we will start for
the Taksang Monetary
The most cherished and holy place to visit in
Bhutan is the famous Taktsang Monastery, which
is popularly called Tiger’s Nest Monastery
because it is said that Guru Rinpoche came here
on the back of a tigress and meditated at this
place. The monastery is built astonishingly on
a cliff in 1692. It was damaged in a fire in 1998
and was restored to its former glory in 2005.
This is the most sacred site which is visited
by all Bhutanese at least once in their lifetime.
On a sunny day it is advisable to carry sun screen,
water, walking stick and a hat. There is about
a one hour climb to reach cafeteria from where
one can enjoy the captivating view of the monastery
as well as flying prayer flags. This is a must
visit, and a trip to Bhutan is incomplete without
visiting here. Paro Dzong: This a magnificent
structure built in true Bhutanese style its original
full name is Ringpung Dzong, which means ‘the
fortress of the heap of jewels’. It was
built in 1644 under the order of Zhabdrung Nawang
Namgyal. The Paro Dzong was almost burnt in an
accidental fire in 1906. The Thongdrol a 20X20
meter-wide Thangka, could only be salvaged. It
is displayed annually during Paro Tshechu which
is celebrated from the 9th till the 15th of the
second month of the traditional Bhutanese calendar
(usually in March or April of the Gregorian calendar).
National Museum of Bhutan: Paro has the famous
National Museum situated in a round fortress the
Ta Dzong. In 1968 with the aim to showcase countries
rich cultural heritage The Kingdom of Bhutan inaugurated
this museum. It showcases artefacts dating back
to 1st century. Kyichu Lhakhang: This is one of
the oldest temple in Bhutan built around the 7th
century and was later visited by Guru Rinpoche
who later went on to establish the Taktsang Monastery

Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1:-Arrival to Paro. Flight
to Paro is an experience in itself. Just prior
to entering Bhutan airspace, on a clear day you
can feast your eyes on sacred Himalayan peaks
of the likes of: Mt. Everest, Mt. Kanchenjunga
and other sacred peaks. Landing in Paro airport
is an experience in itself and view is simply
breath-taking. On your arrival you would be greeted
by representative of Bhutan Travel Packages, an
English speaking guide and driver will greet you
in traditional Bhutanese welcome. You will be
promptly driven to your designated hotel for some
light refreshments and snacks. And thereafter
the sightseeing begins. Your Bhutan travel package
first stop: Kyichu Temple, we will be going to
this 7th century A.D temple built under the reign
of King Sontsen Gampo of Tibet to pin down the
left foot of ogress. Post lunch and an hour or
two of rest we will visit the scenic town of Paro,
we will thereafter walk up to the Ringpung Dzong(Paro
Fortress) over the traditional wooden cantilever
bridge. Late afternoon you will walk back to the
hotel for the much needed rest after your first
exciting day of your Bhutan trip..
Day 2:- Paro-Thimphu (just over
an hour’s drive). This morning you will
drive through the scenic countryside and mountain
roads. You are most likely to come across local
Bhutanese practising archery (Bhutan’s national
sports) with traditional as well as modern bow
and arrows (a great photo opportunity this!).
You arrive at the ruins of Drugyel Dzong ’fortress
of victorious drukpas’, built in 1649 to
celebrate the decisive victory on invading Tibetan
forces. It was completely destroyed in a massive
fire in 1951. From here one can have breath-taking
view of the sacred Jomolhari peak(23,363ft). Then
you will be visiting Ta Dzong ‘the watchtower
fortress’. Ta Dzong was erected in 1641
by Desi Tenzin Drukda, the then Governor of Paro
as watchtower in case of an invasion from north.
In 1968 this circular structure was converted
into a museum, having in all 6 galleries. This
visit will give you an idea of the rich culture
and past of Bhutan in a snippet.
Day 3:- Thimphu: Thimpu is the
capital and the largest city in Bhutan, with a
resident population of just over a hundred thousand.
Thimpu is not the original capital of Bhutan but
became one in 1961. Morning drive to the Traschicho
Dzong or the Thimpu Dzong ‘the fortress
of glorious religion’, on the west banks
of Wangchu(Thimpu) river. It was originally built
in Lama Gyalwa Lhanangpa. It has been restored
and rebuilt on multiple occasions since then.
We will later visit the folk heritage museum,
a three storeyed building replicating the traditional
living style of a Bhutanese family. The National
Library, established in 1967 in Trashico Dzong,
but later in 1984 was shifted to a newly constructed
building in the traditional Bhutanese architecture.
The library houses about 7,000 important photographs,
important documents, letters, books, manuscripts,
microfilms, and the likes. The National Museum
of Thirteen Arts, also known as the painting school
amongst the Bhutanese students, besides displayed
art and artefact. This also serves as training
school for traditional arts. Later after a course
of anywhere between 4 to 5 years these students
are employed in restoring traditional art paintings.
Here one can see students and teacher at work.
The Traditional Hospital, Dechenphodrang monastic
school. Later in the day you will move on to Punakha,
on the way will take a coffee break at Dochula
pass (3,150m). Dinner and overnight stay at hotel
in Punakha.
Day 4:- Punakha & Wangdi
Bhutan tour. In the Morning visit Punakha Dzong
or Pungthang Dechen Photrang Dzong meaning ‘the
place of great happiness and bliss’, was
constructed under the direct guidance of Zhabdrung
Rinpoche. This fortress was completed in 1638
and was later renovated in 2004. Punakha Dzong
was the administrative centre and the seat of
the Royal Government of Bhutan till 1955, when
the capital was moved to Thimpu. The fortress
also houses the sacred remains of Zabdrung Nagawang
Namgyal (1595-1651), the architect of Bhutanese
cultural identity, separate from the Tibetan culture.
It also stores the sacred remains of Terton Padma
Lingpa (1450-1521), a famous and enlightened saint.
Tertonmeans the discoverer of ancient text and
he is considered the foremost of the Five Terton.
Post lunch you will visit Chimi Lhakahng (monastery)
built in 1499, dedicated saint to Drukpa Kuenley
(1455-1529) also known as the ‘Divine Madman’.
Dinner and overnight stay at hotel in Punakha.
Day 5:-Punakha – Paro (3
hours approximately). After breakfast you will
drive back to Paro, en route a coffee/tea break
at Dochula Pass(3150 m). Here you can view the
majestic Himalayan peaks. For lunch you will stop
in Thimpu for, one can engage in souvenir/memorabilia
shopping. In evening we will start for Paro.
Day 6:- Paro Taktshang Hike.
We have saved the best for the last for your Bhutan
travel package, the most famous and revered monastery
in Bhutan. Taktshang Palphug Monastery (also known
as the Tigers’ Nest) hanging on cliff edge
with a sheer drop of 900 meters. It is believed
that Guru Rinpoche who had flown to Paro Taktshang,
riding on the back of a tigress from Tibet in
the 747 A.D. He had meditated in the very caves
around which this monastery is built. On the way
back you will stop at Takshang viewpoint cafeteria
for lunch. A good time to reflect on the events
of past week. The rest of the day will be guided
as per your plan, our guide would be keen to adhere
by it.
Day
7:-Departure. This Bhutan travel adventure
has come to an end; at Bhutan Travel Packages,

Day 1 Arrival at Paro Airport, Bhutan
– Elevation 2280m

of Bhutan known as Druk Yul-the Land of the Thunder
Dragon. You will drive to your assigned hotel
in Paro for lunch and a post lunch siesta. In
evening you can visit the local market and get
used to the place and the altitude.
Day 2 Paro
After
an early breakfast your first stop on your Bhutan
travel Package, a hike Taksang Monastery
Taksang Monastery: The most cherished and holy
place to visit in Bhutan is the famous Taktsang
Monastery or Tiger’s Nest. The monastery
was built in the 17th century to celebrate Guru
Rinpoche. The monastery is perched on granite
rock face almost a kilometre above the valley
floor. This is a must visit site. Any Bhutan tour
is incomplete without visiting the Tiger’s
Lair. Paro Dzong: or the Ringpung Dzong was built
in mid-17th century to protect Bhutan from invading
Tibetan armies.
Day 3 Thimpu Bhutan
After
breakfast you will drive to Thimpu the national
capital of Bhutan. You travel in Bhutan Semtokha
Dzong: This is the oldest fortress in Bhutan.
Heritage Museum: this is where exhibition of artefacts
used in rural household are on display. The School
of 13 arts. Bhutan Institute of Traditional Medicine.
Dinner and stay at a hotel in Thimpu.
Day 4 Thimpu Bhutan
Another
day in the bustling capital city of Bhutan. Thimpu
presents a number of places for a traveller in
Bhutan to visit.
Day 5 Thimpu to Punakha- Elevation 1200
meters
After an early breakfast you would be driven to
Punakha via Dochu-La pass 3,150 meters elevation.
Dochu-La pass: This is the first mountain pass
in western region of Bhutan, and see the 108 Druk
Wangyal Chorten situated on the top of the pass,
built by the present Queen Mother Ashi Dorji Wangmo
Wangchuk in celebration of victory of Bhutanese
forces against militant group in recent past and
to liberate the souls of the souls lost. The design
is inspired from Buddhist scriptures. On a clear
day one can enjoy a panorama of the Himalayan
mountain range. We will also have lunch en route
to Punakha. Punakha Dzong: the second oldest fortress
of Bhutan. It was built in 1637 and remains the
winter home of the clergy, headed by the chief
Abbott, the Je Khenpo. It is bewildering example
of Bhutanese architecture. It looks like sitting
in fork of two rivers. The fortress was destroyed
by fire and glacial floods but has been carefully
restored to its medieval glory. It is a commendable
example of Bhutanese craftsmanship. Khamsum Yulley
Namgyal Chorten(Stupa): We take a short drive
up the valley and reach these splendid Stupas.
It is one of three such Stupas in the world, were
constructed under the guidance of the third Queen
Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuk. It was constructed
in 1992.
Day 6 Punakha - Wangduephodrang Valley
– Gangtey
As one further drives to south of Punakha, one
reaches to the valley of Wangduephodrang at the
elevation of 1,350m. It is an old town of a narrow
street with single storied shops. There is plan
to replace it by a brand new town carried out
of terraced rice fields.
Gangtey Nature Trail, starts from the mani stone
wall to the north of the Gangtey Gonpa and ends
in Khewa Lhakhang. [ Wangduephodrang Dzong(Fortress).
It is on a steep ridge overlooking the highway
fork to the east and south of the country.
Gangtery Gompu Monastery: This Monastery was established
in 1631. The monastery is one of the main seats
of the religious tradition based on Pema Lingpa’s
revelations and also one of the main of two main
centers of Nyingmapa school of Buddhism in Bhutan.
Day 7Gangtey – Bumthang
Bumthang:
The country’s spiritual heart.
Zakar
Dzong: Jakar is situated in the spacious Chumkhar
or Choekor Valley surrounded by tree covered mountains.
It is considered as one of the most beautiful
in all Bhutan and it is commonly referred to as
“Little Switzerland”*. Jakar is known
as stronghold of Vajrayan Buddhism, especially
the Nyingma tradition. You would also ve visiting
Kurjey Lhakhang and Jampey Lkhang.
Day 8 Bumthang – Paro
Post breakfast we will leave for Paro a 6 to 7
hour drive from Bumthang
We will have a light traditional lunch at a restaurant
at Wangduephodrang and start for Paro our point
of origin into Bhutan.
On arrival into Paro you will be taken to the
local market A good night sleep after a sumptuous
dinner at a luxury hotel in Paro

9 paro
